Among the many wonders that nature offers us the geysers are very special. Holes in the ground that abruptly expel a column of hot water and steam. This hot liquid emerges to the surface through porous rocks, due to the phenomenon of convection, and it happens so very quickly that it results in a column of water and air, in spectacular eruptions.
We count around a thousand geysers worldwide and almost half of them are in the Yellowstone National Park, in the United States. This is our selection of the most impressive geysers in the world that you can capture in your wildest audiovisual production or photographic shooting.
Geysir (Iceland)
The Geysir geyser, located in the Haukadalur valley, reaches more than 80 meters in the air when it expels its boiling water, although it does it not so often as many would like. When he wakes up he can beat his own record, as it happened in the year 2000, because of an earthquake on the island. He reached then a height of 122 meters for two days. Although it is difficult to foresee, it would be ideal to capture it in action, don’t you think?
Strokkur (Iceland)
The Strokkur geyser, also in Iceland, is located near the famous Geysir. Unlike the latter, the Strokkur has regular activity and erupts often, reaching an average height of 20 meters, although it can reach 40 meters. An ideal plan B for your audiovisual production or photographic shooting on Iceland.
Steamboat Geyser (United States)
This geyser, located in the Yellowstone National Park, has been known by various names throughout history. They called it Steamboat Geyser, because of its similarity to the jets of steamboats. It can reach up to a height of 90 meters, although it is not possible to predict when its eruptions occur. A mythical one in the list of the best geysers, but very difficult to use in your audiovisual project.
Old Faithful (United States)
The Old Faithful is the best-known geyser in the Yellowstone National Park. It erupts with heights ranging from 30 to 55 meters, and its constancy and predictability make it’s a safe destination to enjoy the majesty of its eruptions, although they are not the highest in the world. If you want to be sure, this is the perfect location to capture such a marvel of nature in your audiovisual project.
Riverside Geyser (United States)
Along with the Old Faithful, the Riverside Geyser is another of the most popular geysers in the Yellowstone National Park. It shoots water and steam to heights of 23 meters in an arch over the nearby river, sometimes causing brilliant rainbows. It usually explodes every 5 or 7 hours, so it is also a very predictable geyser. A location full of color for a photographic shooting or audiovisual production.
Castle Geyser (United States)
The Castle Geyser is also located in the Yellowstone National Park and is known by this name because of the shape of its deposits. It has an eruption cycle that oscillates between 10 and 12 hours, and for 20 minutes the water reaches about 27 meters in height. A marvel that you can capture in your audiovisual project.
Morning Glory (United States)
The Morning Glory geyser, or pool, is a beautiful colored hot spring in the Yellowstone National Park. Responsible for its colors are the bacteria that inhabit it. Do not miss this spectacular location for your photographic shooting or audiovisual production.
Fly Geyser (United States)
The Fly Geyser is located in the Black Rock desert of Nevada, United States, and is possibly the strangest one of the world. The water comes out of three heads and forms puddles of mud. The rare conical shapes of the heads are the result of calcium in the water that slowly solidifies. A most peculiar and unique location for your audiovisual project.
Pohutu (New Zealand)
In the area of the Te Whakarewarewa Thermal Valley, New Zealand, highlights the Pohutu geyser. It erupts up to twenty times per day and can reach up to 30 meters in height. A location where you can capture a great show for your audiovisual production or photographic shooting.
The Tatio Geysers Field (Chile)
In this field in northern Chile, located more than 4.000 meters above sea level, are more than 80 active geysers. Their presence made this location one of the most frequented tourist destinations of this country. It is the largest group of geysers in the southern hemisphere. Although the eruptions do not reach great heights, the particularity of the place is its extension dotted with so many geysers. You will surely succeed with this spectacular location for your audiovisual project.
Dolina Geiserov (Russia)
The Valley of Geysers is located on the Kamchatka peninsula of Russia. It is the only geyser field in Eurasia and the second largest concentration of geysers in the world. This 6 km long basin counts approximately 90 geysers and many hot springs. The main characteristic of these geysers is the peculiar form of their eruption, very few have the typical cones of other geysers.
